Line Graining & Surface Improvement
While we use the widebelt sander “timesaver” on a regular basis to remove burrs and imperfections from the backside of flat punched or laser cut parts, we have several customers that require specific uniform surface finishes. This can be accomplished through line graining, which removes stock from machine-ready blanks using coated abrasives. The process produces a directional pattern on metal surfaces that enhances appearance and adds to ease of handling. The sanding and graining process removes any course imperfections, adding a uniform look and polished appearance to the metal. Depending on the customer requirements the typical belts used are 120/180/220 grit. Some customers require an additional softening of the grain finish which is accomplished using a surface conditioning belt after the initial sanding process. The customer applications for this level of finish are typically used on cosmetic front panels or outside plates in the high end audio, EV, Military, Aerospace, Telecommunications and Medical device industries.
